Northwest Endodontic Specialists Offers Root Canals in Olympia and Surrounding Areas

What is root canal treatment?

The inner part of your tooth contains pulp, comprised of nerves and blood vessels, that fills the root canals of your inner teeth. The pulp can become infected due to tooth decay, fracture or trauma. During root canal therapy, we remove the damaged pulp, clean the root canal system and seal it. This process saves the natural tooth and allows you to avoid a bridge, bone graft and dental implant.

Comfortable, Pain-Free Root Canal Care

These days, root canal treatment is comfortable and pain-free. The tooth is numb for the entire procedure (and some hours after), and any discomfort after the procedure is typically well controlled with over-the-counter pain medications. Most people find that having a root canal is similar to having a filling done and, if they had a toothache prior to the procedure, they are relieved to find that it is gone with the removal of the infection. If you are nervous about having a root canal, we can set your mind at ease to help you have a comfortable, pain-free experience in our office.

Saving Teeth with Endodontics

No artificial crown, dental implant or other prosthesis can ever measure up to the strength, function and aesthetic qualities of your natural tooth. Best practices in dentistry are to save teeth rather than extract them whenever possible, and it is through the process of endodontics that damaged teeth are saved.

Reasons for Root Canal Therapy:

  • Severe Tooth Decay – where the decay is extensive, in or approaching the root system.
  • Fractured Teeth – any fracture in the tooth is an invitation for bacteria to enter the root areas and cause infection, eventually compromising the entire tooth.
  • Dead Nerves – this is a sure sign that extensive damage has been done to the tooth roots.
  • Infections and Abscesses – abscessed teeth have infected roots, and only a thorough root canal treatment can save the tooth at this point.

Symptoms of Tooth Infections:

  • Pain, swelling or redness around tooth
  • Darkening of the tooth (discoloration)
  • Pain while chewing
  • Toothache
  • Sensitivity

If you have any of these signs of infection in your mouth, give us a call at Olympia Office Phone Number 360-459-3636 – the sooner you are seen by a professional, the more likely you will be able to save your tooth.

Root Canal Procedure: What’s It Like?

First, the tooth will be anesthetized. Once it is numb, a dental dam will be placed over the tooth to isolate it. Next, we will make an opening in the crown of the tooth and clean the infected pulp out of the chamber. The chamber is then filled and a filling or temporary crown is placed on top to protect the area. The procedure doesn’t take much longer than a filling, and you will be just as comfortable. The final crown will be restored by your general dentist.

I was very anxious knowing I needed to have this the root canal, however I can say my experience was just amazing! The front desk staff were super friendly and when Stefanie greeted me and took me back to the procedure room she instantly put me at ease. Dr. David Georig made what I thought was going to be a very painful procedure, painless! From the shots to numb my mouth to the actual root canal I felt absolutely no discomfort. I would 100% recommend them for any one who needs a root canal. Thank-you to everyone who helped me today!!

Dr Goerig is really nice and put me at ease before my procedure. He explained everything done after the procedure so I could understand. He is gentle and does a very good job. This is the second time I have needed root canals and I knew as soon as I was told I needed another that he was the one I was going back to. He uses the most up-to-date equipment. He and his staff is very pleasant. It made for a very good experience. I Highly recommend Dr Goerig if you are in need of an Endodontist.

Patient Review By Cindy C

I almost enjoyed myself! From the moment I arrived I was put at ease. Everyone was knowledgeable in their job from the moment I walked in the door, to when I walked out. Dr. Behnen explained each step. He was gentle and understanding. A special shout out to his assistant, Jimmy. He laughed at my jokes and had a few himself. He did the most to alleviate any anxiety I had and was cute to boot. (Is that politically incorrect?) I may even have a little crush. The only way my visit could have been better is if were free...ha!

I filled this out at the office, but it might not have been saved, so I went home and decided to write another one. I am so happy with the procedure and work done on my mouth by David and Tiffany. The specialized care they gave me, reassured and comforted me beyond my expectations. I am so pleased with how nice and caring they were. Thank you guys! You're the best! My compliments...

I am anxious when it comes to dentists and dental work. To be honest, I was terrified to come in today for a root canal that I desperately needed. The staff at Northwest Endodontic Specialists was absolutely wonderful. They exceeded all of my expectations and I will highly recommend them in the future. Seriously, do yourself a favor, and if you need any extra dental care, go to Northwest Endodontic Specialists (and specifically, Dr. Behnen).

Patient Review By Brent E

Root canals do not come on a planned schedule and NES understands that. I was referred on a Monday and had my procedure completed on Thursday first thing. The flexibility to serve so quickly and the pain free experience were the best medicine I could have been administered. Thank you for your speed and great care.
